Best of the '70s

These lists were originally compiled to feature on end-of-year Debbie Does Breakfast shows, but when I was not on air, such as December 1998 when I was living in Los Angeles, I put together a list anyway, to take stock of the year musically for myself.

Since departing the BAY FM airwaves in August 2000, I have continued to compile my Top Ten list at the end of each year, and I've also put together best-of-the-decade album lists for the '70s and '80s just for fun.

These were the releases that I enjoyed and appreciated the most when they were still hot on the CD player. Interestingly, looking back on my lists from the mid-1990s, I know I would prioritize some of the albums differently now. I'd probably leave one or two off altogether. And I'd certainly have Venice's Born and Raised at the top of my 1998 list and included it in the Top 10 albums of the Nineties. Such is the fickle nature of our musical listening habits.

Yet long-time Debbie Does Breakfast listeners would recognise a certain predictability in these lists, too. Such is the stable nature of a woman who knows the music she loves.

Live albums only feature when they are utterly compelling, which live albums usually are not, and are indicated in brackets. By and large, my top ten CDs of each year are albums of new music.

The pictured albums are links to find out more at Amazon.com.
